PARLIAMENTARY WRITTEN QUESTION
(1 June 2026)

Question Asked

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, pursuant to the answer of 20 May 2026 to WQ 935, whether his Department is working on standards and guidance for the construction and management of battery storage energy sites alongside the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero.

Asked by:
John Milne (Liberal Democrat)

Answer

As set out in the answer of 20 May 2026 to Question 935, the Ministry of Defence is progressing its Defence Advanced Battery Strategy, which outlines the Department’s approach to advanced battery technologies. The strategy is in the final stages of review and the intent is it will be published before the end of this year. Due to the sensitive nature of military capabilities, this will be an internal document.

In developing this work, the Department will continue to engage, where appropriate, with relevant Government departments, including the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero and the Department for Business and Trade, which lead on the UK’s National Battery Strategy, to ensure alignment with wider national policy and regulatory frameworks.
