British Overseas Territories (4 February 2015)

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, what discussions his Department has had with Pew Charitable Trust about the potential use of Satellite Catapult to monitor illegal fishing and to enforce marine protected areas that could be created around the UK's overseas territories.

We support Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) where they are scientifically justifiable, and where an effective monitoring and enforcement regime can be established and funded. Officials have discussed the monitoring of MPAs with a range of interested parties, including Pew Charitable Trust, and are aware of the Catapult system.
