PARLIAMENTARY WRITTEN QUESTION
Dental Services: Registration (16 October 2023)

Question Asked

To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, which body collects and collates data on (a) NHS and (b) private dentist registrations in England.

Asked by:
Navendu Mishra (Labour)

Answer

The General Dental Council is the independent statutory regulator of dentists and dental care professionals in the United Kingdom. As such, it holds a register of qualified dental professionals. It does not, however, hold data on whether a registrant is practising in the National Health Service or privately.

A dentist must be listed on the England Dental Performers List (DPL) to deliver NHS dental services in England. The data for DPL is managed by NHS England.
