PARLIAMENTARY WRITTEN QUESTION
Tax Avoidance: Construction (26 November 2014)

Question Asked

To ask Mr Chancellor of the Exchequer, what estimate he has made of the tax revenues lost from the use of umbrella companies in the construction industry; and if he will make a statement.

Asked by:
Gareth Thomas (Labour)

Answer

The Government is concerned at the growing use of overarching contracts of employment by employment intermediaries such as “umbrella companies”.

The Government will review these arrangements and has published a discussion document inviting representations from interested parties to inform potential future action.

There is no estimate of tax revenue lost from the use of umbrella companies in the construction industry alone
