Question Asked

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, whether an EU national employed by an EU employer who is visiting a partner in the UK is required to obtain a visa in order to work remotely for less that 25 days per year if they are only doing work that involves no contact with any UK business.

Answer

Published guidance on the Standard Visitor route makes clear that visitors (including those from the EU) are permitted to undertake activities relating to their employment overseas remotely whilst they are in the UK, such as responding to emails or answering phone calls. However, an applicant’s main purpose of coming to the UK should be to undertake a permitted activity and not specifically to work remotely from the UK. The relevant guidance is here:
