PARLIAMENTARY WRITTEN QUESTION
Tourism: Greater Manchester (13 March 2023)

Question Asked

To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, what steps her Department is taking to support development of the tourism sector in Greater Manchester.

Asked by:
Navendu Mishra (Labour)

Answer

As set out in the Tourism Recovery Plan, the UK Government wants to see a growing, dynamic, and sustainable tourism sector reaching its full potential and driving growth in every nation and region of the UK.

Manchester is a ‘gateway city’ that disproportionately relies on inbound visitors. This has been done through promoting consumer confidence and marketing activity led by VisitBritain and VisitEngland.

VisitBritain recently launched their GREAT-funded £9.8m international campaign in which Manchester is featured throughout both campaigns.

In January 2023, VisitBritain organised a series of educational trips for international travel trade buyers across Britain in which a delegation from the US visited Greater Manchester.
