PARLIAMENTARY WRITTEN QUESTION
Floods: Stockport (31 January 2023)

Question Asked

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, if he will hold discussions with Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council on tackling flooding under the railway bridge on Crossley Road in Stockport.

Asked by:
Navendu Mishra (Labour)

Answer

Local highway authorities have a duty under Section 41 of the Highways Act 1980 to maintain the highways network in their area. It is up to Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council how best to fulfil its statutory duty. I understand that the Council is fully aware of the issue, has erected electronic warning signs for drivers and is seeking to address the underlying issues. In line with our broader approach to local government, the Government does not intervene in local decisions on these matters.
