To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, whether his Department is taking steps to help supporting research which examines the link between diabetes and mental health issues.

Answer
The Department commissions research through the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR). The NIHR welcomes funding applications for research into any aspect of human health, including diabetes and mental health. The NIHR’s Health and Social Care Delivery Research Programme, in partnership with Diabetes UK, is currently inviting applications to understand how services can be improved for people with type 1 and type 2 diabetes, with a particular focus on addressing the challenges of delivering integrated services to support the mental health of people living with diabetes.
