PARLIAMENTARY WRITTEN QUESTION
Mental Health Services: Ambulance Services (26 October 2022)

Question Asked

To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, whether it remains Government policy to invest £7 million for specialist mental health ambulances.

Asked by:
Dr Rosena Allin-Khan (Labour)

Answer

The Government is committed to investing £150 million for significant improvements in the mental health estate over the course of the Spending Review (2021). This includes £7 million for specialised mental health ambulances across the country to reduce the use of general ambulance call-outs for those experiencing a mental health crisis and prevent the inappropriate use of police vehicles as a way to take people to hospital. This will ease pressure on services, improve response times and outcomes for people in crisis which will help save lives, as well as ensuring patients experiencing a crisis are treated with dignity and respect.
