PARLIAMENTARY WRITTEN QUESTION
General Practitioners: Mothers (10 October 2022)

Question Asked

To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, what assessment she has made of the potential merits of face to face GP appointments postpartum.

Asked by:
Feryal Clark (Labour)

Answer

While no specific assessment has been made, we recognise the importance of a blended offer of face to face and remote consultations. Remote consultations can provide additional choice, flexibility and convenience for patients. However, the clinical suitability must be considered for each patient. There are many reasons to seek care in the postnatal period, whether this a routine postnatal visit for mother and baby or to seek more specific care.
