Question Asked

To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, what assessment he has made of the potential merits of community-based models for delivering maternity care in respect of improving maternal outcomes.

Answer

NHS England are implementing the outcomes of ‘Better Births: Improving outcomes of maternity services in England. A Five Year Forward View for maternity care’, which called for safer, more personalised and family-centred care which offers women choice across organisational boundaries. This is supported by midwifery continuity of carer provided by teams based within communities.
