Question Asked

To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, what steps he is taking to ensure that medical professionals are adequately trained on supporting survivors of domestic abuse.

Asked by:
Feryal Clark (Labour)

Answer

NHS England and NHS Improvement have written to medical professionals and staff to reiterate that there are educational resources on domestic abuse, sexual assault and abuse and on their duties in this area. A campaign to raise awareness of sexual assault referral centres was supported by communications and training, which was informed by those with lived experience. NHS England and NHS Improvement also announced the creation of two new clinical lead roles for domestic violence and sexual assault, to supplement existing support in the National Health Service and integrated care systems.
