PARLIAMENTARY WRITTEN QUESTION
Endometriosis and Polycystic Ovary Syndrome: Diagnosis (14 March 2022)

Question Asked

To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, what steps his Department has taken to improve the training of primary care practitioners on diagnostic and referral pathways for endometriosis and PCOS.

Asked by:
Feryal Clark (Labour)

Answer

The training included in undergraduate curricula for healthcare professionals must meet the standards set by the General Medical Council (GMC), which monitors and ensures these standards are maintained. The GMC are introducing the Medical Licensing Assessment (MLA) which will ensure all United Kingdom medical students have the required core knowledge, skills and behaviour needed to practice safely. The MLA will specify a number of conditions to ensure safe clinical practise, including endometriosis and other gynaecological conditions.
