To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, what estimate his Department has made of the size of the waiting list for diagnostics tests in the NHS; and if he will make a statement.

Answer

The most recent data available shows that at the end of December 2021, there were 1,445,000 patients waiting for a diagnostic test. The number of patients waiting six weeks or more from referral for one of the 15 key diagnostic tests at the end of December 2021 was 419,300. This was 29% of the total number of patients waiting at the end of the month.
