PARLIAMENTARY WRITTEN QUESTION
NHS Blood and Transplant: Training (4 February 2022)

To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, pursuant to the Answer of 22 October 2021 to Question 56519 on Blood: Donors, what updated guidance and training has been issued to front line NHS Blood and Transplant Service staff following changes to blood donation rules.

Prior to the removal of the question asking potential donors whether their recent sexual partners may have ever had sex in HIV endemic areas, training sessions were delivered to lead nurses on all blood donation teams. The sessions were accompanied with a comprehensive briefing document and plan to raise awareness. Lead nurses were then responsible for cascading this training to all blood collection teams.

In addition, the Joint United Kingdom Blood Transfusion and Tissue Transplantation Services Professional Advisory Committee published a Change Notification for the blood services, alerting them to the updated guidelines in relation to the removal of this question.
