Question Asked

To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, if he will develop a cross-government strategy to reduce health inequalities.

Asked by:
Marsha De Cordova (Labour)

Answer

The Office for Health Improvement and Disparities is developing relationships across Government, the National Health Service, the wider public health system and industry to improve health outcomes and reduce inequalities. Further information on plans to tackle the disparities in health outcomes will be made available in due course.

The Health Promotion Taskforce has been established to promote the importance of preventing ill-health and addressing health disparities, informed by expert, evidence-based advice, including from the Chief Medical Officer. In addition, the Government will publish a white paper this year, setting out interventions to improve livelihoods and opportunity in all parts of the country and supporting local government.
