PARLIAMENTARY WRITTEN QUESTION
Refugees: Children (6 December 2021)

Question Asked

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, whether child refugees who are accommodated in hotels have access to education and the facilities to play in accordance with the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Asked by:
Navendu Mishra (Labour)

Answer

Unaccompanied asylum seeking children (UASC) who are temporarily accommodated in UASC hotels, whilst awaiting a permanent placement with a local authority under the National Transfer Scheme, have access to play materials in communal spaces, in addition to the opportunity to engage with activities on and off site.

Education provision is the responsibility of the local authorities and is provided once they have received the UASC into their care.
