Question Asked

To ask the Secretary of State for Justice, what the timeframe is for the Law Commission review into a modern framework for disposing of the dead to begin.

Answer

The start date and detail of the Law Commission‘s project will be agreed between the Law Commission and this Department and will be announced in due course.

The reuse of burial space is a sensitive issue and any changes need careful consideration. The Government welcomes information from burial providers about the circumstances in their area.

Information on the reuse of graves in London is not collated centrally.
