PARLIAMENTARY WRITTEN QUESTION
Agriculture: Coronavirus (13 July 2020)

Question Asked

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland, what assessment he has made of the economic effect of the covid-19 outbreak on the farming industry in Scotland; and if he will make a statement.

Asked by:
Ed Davey (Liberal Democrat)

Answer

Just like many other industries in the United Kingdom, the farming industry in Scotland has had to make a number of changes to the way it operates as a result of COVID-19.

I appreciate the variety of roles involved in maintaining the UK’s food supply chain, and would like to give credit to all involved, including our farmers, who have helped ensure this has remained secure during the current crisis.

As we emerge from the pandemic, ministers and officials from this department remain in close contact with the farming industry in Scotland to ensure that we understand the challenges they continue to face, and so that they are kept informed of the range of support that is available from the UK Government in response to COVID-19.
