PARLIAMENTARY WRITTEN QUESTION
Coronavirus: Dental Services (19 March 2020)

Question Asked

To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, whether dentists should cease all use of aerosol producing procedures during the covid-19 outbreak.

Asked by:
Sir Alan Campbell (Labour)

Answer

NHS England and NHS Improvement has issued guidance setting out that routine dentistry should be stopped. Practices can continue to offer urgent care only, remotely. This means they are restricted to offering advice, analgesia and antibiotics. Urgent, hands on dentistry, is being provided by urgent dental care centres where full personal protective equipment is available to reduce the risks associated with aerosol generating procedures.
