Question Asked

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, what plans he has to review the lack of an appropriate time limit for Independent Office of Police Complaints disciplinary investigations.

Asked by:
Alberto Costa (Conservative)

Answer

The Government intends to introduce new regulations on the timeliness of police disciplinary investigations carried out by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) or by police forces themselves.

If an investigation is not completed within 12 months, an explanation will need to be provided including the reasons for the length of time being taken, the planned steps to bring the investigation to a conclusion and an estimate of when the report of the investigation will be completed.
