PARLIAMENTARY WRITTEN QUESTION
Dairy Farming (18 February 2019)

Question Asked

To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, what steps he has taken to support dairy farmers to obtain a fair price from supermarkets for their produce.

Asked by:
Sir John Hayes (Conservative)

Answer

We want all farmers to get a fair price for their products and the Government is committed to tackling the unfairness that exists in the dairy supply chain.

There are a number of possible options for achieving this, including using new powers in our Agriculture Bill to introduce Statutory Codes of Practice, and using existing powers on Mandatory Written Contracts.

The approach taken will need to take account of the outcome of EU negotiations, and a wide range of stakeholder views. We will launch a full consultation in due course.
