To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, what recent estimate she has made of the number of people in England and Wales who are on police bail but have not been charged.

Answer
Figures on the number of individuals on pre-charge police bail are not held centrally and could only be obtained at disproportionate cost. There is
therefore no basis on which to produce a reliable estimate.
