PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
Amnesty Appeal on Syrian Detainees (2 April 1990)

Motion Details

That this House warmly congratulates the Chesterfield Group of Amnesty International which for six years has persistently pursued the case for the release of four of the 70 engineers who have been detained without trial in Syria since 1980; welcomes the group's launching of a petition seeking the release of the four engineers: Bashar Tarazi, Sami Walid, Hassan Zaitoun and Zuhain Zuhri; and further calls on the Government to raise this issue through the European Community, with the Syrian authorities to persuade them again to consider the release of all the engineers concerned on humanitarian grounds and to coincide with the 20th anniversary of President Assad's accession to power.
