PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
CONTINUING IMPRISONMENT OF NEIL LATIMER (3 February 1994)
Motion Details
That this House recalls that the convictions of three of the UDR Four were quashed on appeal when it was proved that 39 pages of police notes and alleged confessions had been tampered with; that 16 out of 39 of those pages referred to Neil Latimer; that Neil's appeal was dismissed on the basis that he, alone, had allegedly been identified by Witness 'A'; expresses its concern at the inconsistency of responses between the legal systems in England and in Northern Ireland relating to evidence which has been tampered with; notes that the recent publication, Witness for the Prosecution, casts serious doubts on the reliability of Witness 'A'; and calls on the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland to take the necessary steps to exonerate and liberate Mr Latimer.
