PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
HOUSING ASSOCIATIONS (18 April 1994)

Motion Details

That this House congratulates housing associations on their success in delivering quality and affordable homes to people who are in the greatest housing need in the 20 years since the introduction of the Housing Act 1974; notes with pleasure that the number of people who are housed by associations has risen from 200,000 in 1974 to a figure in excess of 1,200,000; further commends housing associations on their long-term commitment to building and sustaining healthy, balanced communities in partnership with local authorities; welcomes the achievement of housing associations since 1989 in raising substantial amounts of private finance to develop new housing; and therefore calls upon Her Majesty's Government to take every possible step to enable and support housing associations to continue to play their vital role as providers of affordable housing.
