PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
WORLD DAY OF ACTION ON KASHMIR (6 July 1994)
Motion Details
That this House welcomes the joint initiative taken by the All Party British Parliamentary Kashmir Group, the Parliamentary Human Rights Group, the Congressional Human Rights Foundation and parliamentarians in a number of other countries in reminding the world community that the Kashmir dispute remains unresolved and that the abuse of human rights and loss of innocent lives continues; calls on all parties to the dispute to abide by international standards of human rights and humanitarian law and cease extra-judicial killings, torture and other malpractices; urges the Indian Government to restore the due process of law and recommend and support the initiatives of independent and non-governmental organizations in monitoring against human rights abuses; and calls on the governments of both India and Pakistan to recognise and respond to the call for self-determination, a right which was historically promised but has yet to be exercised by the people of Kashmir and to re-activate the role of the United Nations as a catalyst in this process which would include the full participation of the Kashmiri people.
