PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
HONOURABLE MEMBER FOR MONKLANDS EAST AND MONKLANDS DISTRICT COUNCIL (5 July 1994)

Motion Details

That this House welcomes the honourable member for Monklands East; notes her courageous campaign and determination to investigate fully the corruption and nepotism on Monklands District Council; welcomes the strong support given to the honourable Member for Monklands East by the convener of the Scottish Parliamentary Labour Group, the honourable Member for Glasgow Provan, who said 'I have now had a chance to have a look at the figures made available to Helen Liddell about spending in Monklands and I can seen perfectly why she concluded that there was an imbalance in major project spending in the district. Helen Liddell is absolutely right to find this unacceptable and she has my full support in her campaign to get fairness for the people of Monklands East' (The Herald, Thursday 30th June 1994); believes that 110 Members of the Parliamentary Labour party who signed the honourable Member for Cumbernauld and Kilsyth's Motion (Conduct of honourable Members and Monklands District Council), which concluded that there was no valid complaint against Monklands District Council may now wish to remove their names from the said Motion; and looks forward to the honourable Member for Monklands East making available to the House and to the Scottish Office the figures made available to her so that a full inquiry can take place into the disgraced administration of Monklands District Council.
