PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
FACILITIES IN THE PALACE OF WESTMINSTER (11 May 1992)
Motion Details
That this House recognises the severe restrictions the 19th Century Palace of Westminster places on the provision of modern, efficient facilities for Members of Parliament, their staff, and all who work in and visit the House of Commons; notes that Phase 2 of the Bridge Street Development will not be completed until 1997; deplores the absence of even basic provision for female Members, staff, and visitors in particular; welcomes the decisions which placed the control of these matters and the budget with the House of Commons Commission; and calls upon the Leader of the House and the Commission to take urgent steps at their next meeting to lease additional accommodation in Westminster to resolve these problems in the interests of the more efficient working of the House of Commons and therefore of the constituents of honourable Members.
