PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
DANGEROUS FIREWORKS (31 October 1994)
Motion Details
That this House condemns the Government for abolishing import licences for dangerous fireworks; notes that dangerous bangers are now on sale in the United Kingdom with 15 times the explosive power of traditional fireworks; notes the sale of 100lb Chinese fireworks which throw flames out 100 feet; calls on the DTI to immediately warn the public against buying unbranded dangerous fireworks, especially from car boot sales and other temporary outlets; further calls on the DTI to take all steps to seize dangerous and illegal fireworks; notes that the Government admitted the failure of its privatised firework safety campaign in 1993 which contributed to the rise in injuries to over 1,000; and calls on the Government to re-instate import licences to ensure that dangerous fireworks are stopped at ports of entry.
