PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
EUROPEAN UNITY AND DEMOCRACY (3 June 1992)
Motion Details
That this House welcomes moves for a coming together of Member states and increasing unity within the European Community; and believes that this must not be based on the narrow concept of a monetary union alone, but must encompass, particularly in the terms for convergence, the real economic factors of employment, growth and investment, it must fully reflect responsibilities for the environment and social matters, including the Social Chapter and it must be based on the principle of retaining power within democratically elected organisations, with all non-elected institutions being fully accountable to elected representatives, and on the principle of subsidiarity operating at sub-national as well as international level.
