PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
BRITISH COAL (19 May 1992)
Motion Details
That this House recognises the great contribution made by British miners to the well-being of the country's economy and its people; considers the proposal to privatise British Coal is ill-conceived and that unrestrained market forces will destroy Britain's world class coal mining industry, sterilise billions of tonnes of coal reserves, cause energy insecurity, worsen the balance of payments deficit, weaken mining safety standards, and cause massive unemployment in the already devastated mining communities; and therefore urges Her Majesty's Government to abandon its proposals for privatisation and retain a high volume public sector coal mining industry.
