ISRAEL LABOUR PARTY ELECTION VICTORY (No. 2) (23 June 1992)
Motion Details
That this House congratulates the Israeli Labour Party and its allies on a historic election victory; notes that over 50 per cent. of the Israeli electorate, both Jew and Arab, have voted for territorial compromise as the basis for resolving the Arab-Israeli conflict; welcomes the intention of the incoming Labour Government to halt settlement activity in the West Bank and Gaza Strip; further welcomes the objective of the Israeli Labour Party to complete negotiations on interim autonomy arrangements for the Palestinians within nine months of assuming power; believes that the election of a Labour Government will add fresh momentum to the peace process; and urges Her Majesty's Government to continue to use its good offices in promoting the formula of exchanging land for peace as the cornerstone for the current peace talks.
