PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
MANUFACTURING IN THE NORTH WEST (3 November 1992)

That this House is appalled at the fall of 399,000 employees in manufacturing in the North West Region between June 1979 and June 1992; is also appalled by the fall in real and constant terms in investment and output in this key manufacturing region; recognises that it is the Government's failure to invest in industry and in education and training that is the basic reason for the ongoing weakness of the pound and the British economy; hopes that urgent steps will now be taken to reverse this decline and ensure for example no further job losses in the aerospace industry; and urges the Government to take steps to encourage house building and other construction work as at least an initial step in getting people and Britain back to work.
