PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
JOB LOSSES LYONS MAID, CLARKS FOODS KIRKBY (2 November 1992)

That this House notes with alarm that the Lyons Maid works in Kirkby, under the ownership of Clarke Foods (UK) Limited, has been put into Administrative Receivership and that the 67 employees have been made redundant; further notes with alarm that Clarke Foods have reneged on assurances given over redundancy payments at the time when they acquired the plant; expresses its sympathy and solidarity with the workers at Lyons Maid in their efforts to maintain these important manufacturing jobs locally; and calls on the President of the Board of Trade to carry out an urgent inquiry into the legal situation in respect of Clarke Foods and the manner in which they put this works into receivership, given their previous commitments to the workforce and their trade union and in response to the workforces' direct request to him.
