PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
RELEASING OF U.S. AID TO NICARAGUA (26 October 1992)
Motion Details
That this House condemns the suspension by the United States State Department of $104 million of United States aid to Nicaragua, which represents more than half of the $280 million appropriated by Congress for the 1992 fiscal year and further condemns the conditions which the United States has placed upon release of this aid, which includes the reversal of Sandinista land reform and a purge of Sandinistas from the police and army by the Nicaraguan Government; believes that this act represents a gross violation of Nicaragua's national sovereignty and an unwelcome continuation to the intervention, intimidation and blackmail which characterised United States' policy towards Nicaragua throughout the 1980s; urges all governments to respect the sovereignty of Nicaragua's democratic political process; and calls on the United States Government immediately to release this aid.
