PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
PIT CLOSURES (19 October 1992)
Motion Details
That this House deplores the callous way the Government announced the closure of 31 deep mines with the loss of 31,000 pit jobs and with a knock on to the economy of more than 70,000 additional job losses; considers the statement by the President of the Board of Trade to the House on Monday 19th October fails to address national concern; and calls for a moratorium on all colliery closures, negotiations on new coal contracts to be held in abeyance, a report from the Regulator on whether the national interest is served by the generators' dash for more costly gas fired capacity and a Select Committee report on the most efficient mix of Britain's indigenous energy resources.
