PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
LAND TRAVEL (23 September 1992)
Motion Details
That this House notes that government inaction permitted Land Travel to continue to trade; that up to 40,000 people lost their money or their holiday when Land Travel collapsed; that Land Travel failed to lodge accounts within the legal timescale in 1990-91; that Land Travel was ú2.1 million in debt in 1990 and that the auditors Price Waterhouse were not satisfied it was a going concern; condemns the failure of the President of the Board of Trade to take effective action after receiving a damning report from the Boston Conservative Party; and calls on the Government to hold an independent enquiry into the collapse of Land Travel, recommend improvements in auditing procedures to ensure better consumer protection and consider compensating victims of Land Travel's collapse because of ministerial incompetence.
