PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
SAFETY IN THE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY (18 November 1992)

That this House is concerned with the continuing mortality and morbidity in the construction industry with around 150 deaths per year representing a third of all industrial mortality; and therefore calls on the Government to review health and safety in the construction industry with a view to introducing appropriate mandatory jail sentences where gross negligence, leading to loss of life, is proven, the right to stop the job by refusing dangerous work, effective legislation to end victimisation, blacklisting and sacking, and collection of proper statistics on the true extent of mortality and morbidity in building workers.
