PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
TUC EDUCATION AND TRAINING GRANTS (27 January 1993)

Motion Details

That this House views with grave concern the decision to bring to an end grants for trade union education and training; notes that over half a million representatives have attended TUC courses since 1976, of which 164,000 were safety representatives and that HMI consistently reports on their high quality; further notes that employers acknowledge that proper training for union representatives has contributed to improved industrial relations; considers the decision to terminate grants ill thought out and fails to take into account the effect on educational institutions of the withdrawal of TUC courses; believes that this measure will be widely viewed as vindictive and prejudiced; and therefore calls upon the Secretary of State for Employment to review and reverse her decision.
