PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
MRS GHAZALA TAHIR (22 January 1993)

That this House calls upon the Secretary of State for the Home Department to urgently reconsider his Department's decision to refuse permission for Mrs Ghazala Tahir and her family of Blyth, Northumberland, to remain in the country; notes that Mrs Tahir was previously granted permission to remain in this country, and only lost that right because she misunderstood the regulations and was out of the country for more than two years; further notes that the family have three small children, two who attend local schools and a young baby who was born in this country, are well respected members of the community and have a petition signed by over 4000 local people supporting their case; and urges the Home Secretary to recognise that this problem only arose because Mrs Tahir misunderstood the regulations, and to take immediate steps to ensure that the family are allowed to remain in the country.
