PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
COLD WEATHER PAYMENTS(NO 2) (22 January 1993)
Motion Details
That this House notes the recent cold weather spell in Scotland, the north of England and Northern Ireland resulted in widespread chaos on the roads, huge snowfalls in many areas, gale force winds and flooding; also notes that these conditions resulted in increased heating bills for many people including the elderly and those on benefits; further notes that the system of cold weather payments was not triggered anywhere in the country despite the appalling conditions; and demands that the Government waive the usual seven day rule to allow payments to be made to those severely affected by the recent cold weather.
