PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
DISABILITY LIVING ALLOWANCE FOR CHILDREN UNDER 5 (13 January 1993)

That this House notes that the new section 37(Z)(c) of the Social Security Act 1975, as amended by the Disability Living Allowance and Disability Working Allowance Act 1991 prevents children from receiving the new mobility component of the disability living allowance until they are five years old; condemns the Government's argument that the mobility needs and cost of a disabled child under five years are not significantly in excess of those for non-disabled children of the same age; and calls on the Government to abolish the age restriction so as to make proper provision for the estimated 25,000 disabled under-fives in Britain.
