PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
STUDENT UNIONS (13 January 1993)

Motion Details

That this House believes that the maintenance of students' unions is of imperative importance to the well-being of the student population; notes that the majority of student union work refers directly to welfare subjects, such as financial help, accommodation, assistance with hardship/debt, income support, child benefit, housing benefit, students' loans, unemployment, and related work and social questions; also underlines the freedom of students to use the services freely and the breadth of the welfare services provided; deplores the decision of the Department for Education to introduce major changes without full consultation; and calls upon the Secretary of State for Education to delay any action until the relevant information is available.
