PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
FUTURE OF COASTWAY RAIL SERVICE (15 December 1992)
Motion Details
That this House notes with concern the reported comments of Sir James Sherwood, President of Sea Containers, that the Coastway BR service between Eastbourne and Southampton 'cannot be justified commercially'; notes also that Sea Containers has expressed interest in bidding for BR routes in the South East; believes that these comments indicate that privatisation will lead to drastic reduction of rail services in the South East; and calls on the Government to drop proposals for rail privatisation and to ensure that routes such as Coastway receive the investment and support required to achieve a high level of public transport service.
