PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
LOCATION OF THE SCHOOL CURRICULUM AND ASSESSMENT AUTHORITY (25 February 1993)

Motion Details

That this House urges the Government to base the School Curriculum and Assessment Authority in York in the offices currently occupied by the National Curriculum Council, whose functions the School Curriculum and Assessment Authority will absorb; believes that the Government's decision in 1988 to establish the National Curriculum Council in York was an important indication of its commitment to locate non-departmental public bodies and other government offices away from the capital, whenever practicable, so as to ensure that all regions of the country benefit from government employment; recognises that York has good transport links with all parts of the country which has been of great benefit to the National Curriculum Council as a national body; and notes that the rent of ú14 per square foot, including VAT, paid by the National Curriculum Council for its offices in York is less than half of the rent of ú34 per square foot, including VAT, paid for Newcombe House in London, which is being considered as an alternative base for the School Curriculum and Assessment Authority.
