TREASURY AND CIVIL SERVICE COMMITTEE REPORT ON BANKING SUPERVISION AND BCCI (25 February 1993)
Motion Details
That this House welcomes the Second Report of Session 1992-93 from the Treasury and Civil Service Committee on 'Banking Supervision and BCCI: The Implications of the Bingham Report (HC 250)'; notes paragraph 39 on page XV which states "...we believe that the Bingham Report demonstrates conclusively that the Bank of England 'failed to discharge its supervisory duties' in respect of BCCI."; and recommends that the appointment of Eddie George, Governor-designate of the Bank of England, formerly Deputy Governor, be reviewed by this Committee and urges the fresh appointment of an outsider untainted by the soiled and over cosy ethos presently to be found in the Bank of England.
