PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
LOW PAY IN LANCASHIRE (23 February 1993)

That this House congratulates Channel 4 on the transmission on 15th February of the production by Hard Cash Productions Cutting Edge, featuring the journalist Sima Ray drawing attention to the scandal of low pay in Burnley, Pendle, Blackburn and Preston; believes that this highlights the folly of Government policies in proposing the abolition of wages councils, opposing a national minimum wage and opposing the Social Chapter; and believes that it is now time the Government took positive steps to reduce unemployment and ensure that workers in the United Kingdom are given fair pay and working conditions and the protection to which they are entitled.
