PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
BRITISH NATIONAL PARTY (16 February 1993)

Motion Details

That this House notes that since the establishment of the British National Party Headquarters in Welling there have been at least two racist murders locally and one of the highest levels of recorded incidents of racist attacks in the United Kingdom; notes the European Parliament report on Racism and Xenophobia which found that the BNP 'is an openly Nazi party' whose 'leadership have serious criminal convictions' whose 'crimes range from bomb making, organising illegal paramilitary groups, possession of firearms and a series of convictions under Race Relations and Public Order Acts' and that 'BNP publications are uninhibited in their racist style and report unashamedly on their members stabbing Black people'; rejects the view that the BNP has a right to participate in the political process in a democratic society since it is not a true political party but a criminal conspiracy to murder and terrorise, and whilst condemning the Bexley London Borough for not using its enforcement powers despite clear legal advice that the BNP is breaching planning regulations, rejects the view that this is purely a local matter; supports the view of the Anti-Racist Alliance that against the background of rising racist violence in Europe the BNP is a matter for national and international concern; contrasts the inaction of Her Majesty's Government with the positive action taken by Germany in banning extremist right groups; and calls on the Home Secretary to close the BNP Headquarters and take action to deal with the menance of neo-Nazi organisations.
