PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
LIPREADING TUITION (24 March 1993)
Motion Details
That this House recognises that lipreading tuition is of paramount importance to thousands of people who have a hearing loss; further recognises that such provision is essential for hard of hearing and deafened people in order that they are able to maximise their communication abilities and live full and independent lives; believes that these classes should be provided locally and free of charge, especially as the majority of people who need them are likely to be elderly; and calls upon the Government to amend Schedule 2 to the Further and Higher Education Act 1992 to include lipreading classes in order that their future funding may be put on a secure basis.
